Guide

Use this calculator when assignments or course categories count for different percentages of your grade. Enter each score as a percent, then enter the weight from your syllabus.

Formula

G=∑(si×wi)∑wiG = \frac{\sum(s_i \times w_i)}{\sum w_i}

Each score is multiplied by its weight. The weighted points are added together, then divided by the total weight entered.

That means the work entered so far averages to 89.25% after each score is weighted.

Tips

  • Use the weights from your syllabus when possible.
  • Enter a category average, such as homework or quizzes, if your course grades by category.
  • If the weights entered so far do not add up to 100, the calculator normalizes the result by the total weight you entered.

Enter your completed work in the rows above, set Target course grade to the grade you want, and set Remaining/final weight to the final exam's percent of the course. The Needed on remaining/final result is the final exam score you need.

Enter the percent of the course grade that is not already in the rows above. If your completed rows add up to 80% of the class, enter 20%. If you only want to check a final exam worth 25%, enter 25%.

Yes. Use the category average as the score and the syllabus category percentage as the weight. For example, a 91% quiz average in a 15% quiz category should be entered as score 91 and weight 15.

That target is not reachable with normal scoring on the remaining work. Lower the target grade, check that the completed weights and scores are entered correctly, or include extra credit only if your class offers it.
