Guide

The 100m wind calculator gives a zero-wind estimate for a 100 m sprint. It also adjusts the time for altitude.

Use a positive wind value for a tailwind. Use a negative wind value for a headwind.

Calculator procedure

  1. Enter the recorded 100 m time.
  2. Enter the wind speed in meters per second.
  3. Select Include altitude if you know the venue altitude.
  4. Read the zero-wind, sea-level time.

Result data

The zero-wind time is an estimate. It does not replace the official time. A tailwind makes the zero-wind time slower. A headwind makes the zero-wind time faster.

Mureika made the model for world-class sprint performance. Use wind values from -5.0 to +5.0 m/s. Use altitude values from 0 to 2,500 m.

Wind limit

World Athletics sets a maximum tailwind of +2.0 m/s for a wind-legal 100 m result. A stronger tailwind makes the result wind-assisted. You cannot use a wind-assisted time for a record.

Example

Enter a time of 10.00 seconds. Enter a tailwind of +2.0 m/s. The calculator gives a zero-wind time of 10.11 seconds. The wind change is +0.108 seconds.

Limits

The model does not include these conditions:

  • Lane
  • Track surface
  • Air temperature, humidity, or pressure
  • Timing method
  • Reaction time
  • Athlete aerodynamics

Do not use the zero-wind time as an official qualification time. Do not use it as an official record time.
